SYLLABUS – MUSIC CLASS – MRS. ERDMAN

MATERIALS FOR CLASS

–1 folder – 2 pocket – with loose leaf paper in the folder TO BE KEPT IN THE MUSIC ROOM

–Pencil, pen, planner

 

PARTICIPATION (40% of grade)

–Come to class prepared with pencil, pen and planner

–All students will provide a folder to be kept in the music room and keep folder organized

–Sing name during attendance

–Participate during prayer at beginning of class (reverent and respectful)

–Participate in class (sing, show effort to understand, ask questions) and obey classroom rules (Listen, raise hand before speaking, be nice J)

CHORUS (Grades 3, 4 & 5):  Class is held in the Music Room on Fridays, 8th period. The Chorus will participate in two concerts this school year: A Christmas Concert on Thursday, January 5, 2107 and a Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, both at 12:30 and 7:00 pm. N.B.  An unexcused absence from a concert will result in 10 points deducted from Music Class participation grade for the marking period.

 

QUIZZES/TESTS (60% of grade)

–All quizzes/tests will be open notes or assessments based on following directions.

 

PIANO AND GUITAR

Mr. David Butler of In-School Studio, will provide private piano and guitar lessons to students during school hours on Mondays.  Go to inschoolmusic.org. to register. Mr. Butler has a recital in January at his home and in June at UB.

VIOLIN

Mrs. Greta Speller offers Suzuki violin instruction on Wednesdays during school hours. Public performance opportunities are offered at the Christmas concert on January 5, 2017. A separate recital will take place in the Spring of 2017.

CHOIR – CHURCH

Mrs. Gail Shepherd directs a children’s after school choir for students in grades 3-8. Students sing at the Wednesday 8:00am Mass and occasionally for Sunday Masses, usually 9:30 am Mass.  Rehearsals are after school in the church on Tuesdays, 2:15 to 3:15 pm.

BAND/INSTRUMENT LESSONS –TRUMPET, TROMBONE, SAXOPHONE, FLUTE, CLARINET AND PERCUSSION

Mrs. Michelle Russ will teach instrument lessons on Tuesdays during the school day on a rotating schedule.  In addition to lessons, band students will meet one day per week to prepare for the Christmas concert on January 5, 2017 and the spring concert on May 16, 2017.   To be in the band, students must take instrument lessons on Tuesdays in school in addition to full band rehearsals as scheduled, usually Fridays after school.  Instrument rental is available through this program or you may obtain your own instrument.  Registration will begin on September 9, 2016 and should be submitted to the School Office.  Students in grades 3 through 8 may participate.

MUSICAL

Mrs. Nancy Erdman will direct a musical, scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 12:30 pm and 7 pm.   Auditions for students in grades six, seven and eight are scheduled for Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm in the music room.  Rehearsals will be held after school on Thursdays from 2 pm to 3:30 pm in the music room beginning Thursday, November 17, 2016 with final dress rehearsals on Monday and Tuesday, March 13 & 14, 2017 from 2 pm to 4 pm.  Attendance at all rehearsals and parental permission is required.
