Mrs. Shepherd

Name: Gail Shepherd
Subjects/Grades taught: Music, Pre K-8
How many years teaching? I taught classroom music for several years early in my career, and then concentrated on children’s choirs for a few decades. Now I’m back to classroom music again and loving it!
How many years at SSPP? Almost 23!!!!!
What do you love most about teaching at SSPP? I know this community very well, so the parish is like a family to me now. I’m finding the school to be the same way. I sense that the students really like music of all kinds and enjoy the active, hands-on activities I think are so important.
Awards/Accolades:  I’m very proud of the Cecelia Roy Kenny Award I was awarded from the Church Musicians’ Guild of Buffalo for leadership in music ministry. I was president of this historic organization for several years. Ceil Kenny was a gifted musician and leader in Catholic church music when women were very much a minority. She was always a mentor to all of us young organists. She was also an aviator!
Favorite book:  The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I’ve read many books as an adult, but this one has always stayed with me. And the early Spring reminds me of that book every year.
Favorite food:  I love Middle Eastern food. Falafel!!!
Favorite movie:  2001 A Space Odyssey: The music, the cinematography, the weird story.
Favorite lesson or theme you teach: Everyone knows: I love Bach!!!
